Johan Belisario Article In Baseball America Issue #1425

There is a nice article on 2014 CT Tigers' closer Johan Belisario in the recent issue of  Baseball America. Belisario was a 2014 NY-Penn All Star and Connecticut Tigers Connection's pitcher of the year!

Six Former CT Tigers In Baseball America Top 10 Detroit Prospects

(2014 CT Tigers' second baseman Domingo Leyba)

Six former Connecticut Tigers' players have been named among the top 10 prospects in the Detroit Tigers' system recently by Baseball America.

#1 Devon Travis 2B 2012 CT Tigers (recently traded to Toronto)
#3 Buck Farmer RHP (2013 CT Tigers)
#4 Derek Hill OF (2014 CT Tigers)
#5 Domingo Leyba 2B (2014 CT Tigers)
#6 Kevin Ziomek (2013 CT Tigers)
#10 Tyler Collins (2011 CT Tigers)

Former 2012 CT Tiger Devon Travis Traded To Toronto For OF Anthony Gose

Former 2012 2B Devon Travis was recently traded to the Toronto Blue Jays for highly rated OF prospect Anthony Gose. Ironically, Travis was just named as the Detroit Tigers #1 overall prospect by Baseball America. Many feel Travis will get a chance to start in Toronto in 2015!

Former CT Tigers Crawford & Suarez Traded To Cincinnati Reds For Former Norwich Navigator Alfredo Simon!

In an odd twist of fate, former Connecticut Tigers SS Eugenio Suarez (2011) and RHP Jonathon Crawford (2013) were traded by the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday for former Norwich Navigators' pitcher Alfredo Simon. Suarez will have a great chance to make an impact with the Reds soon, while Crawford is still probably a couple of years away.

Johan Belisario: Connecticut Tigers Connection Pitcher Of The Year

RHP Johan Belisario is our choice for Connecticut Tigers' 2014 Pitcher Of The Year. Belisario was simply untouchable all season and is one of the key reasons the Tigers advanced to the NY-Penn League playoffs. He was also a 2014 NY-Penn League All Star. His final 2014 numbers were:

Wins (5)
Losses (0)
ERA (0.79)
IP (34.0)
Hits (23)
Earned Runs (3)
Strikeouts (34)
Walks (8)
Saves (3)

Johan was also superb at Gulf Coast in 2013 (5-1, 1.15, 16 Saves.) With the Detroit bullpen in disarray, Johan Belisario could be in the Motor City before you know it!

Joey Pankake: Connecticut Tigers Connection's 2014 Player Of The Year

Connecticut Tigers Connection 2014 Player Of The Year: Joey Pankake

Early in the 2014 season it appeared that CT Tiger RF Michael Gerber would be a slam dunk to be the Tigers' MVP for the year. However, we have we have chosen 2014 Tiger 3B/SS Joey Pankake as our Player Of The Year. In our opinion Pankake was the team's most consistent player all season and was that way right up until the end. Pankake was the NY-Penn League Player Of The Month For July. His final 2014 numbers were:

BA (.292)
HR (2)
RBI (36)
Hits (70)
Doubles (16)
Triples (2)
SB (2)

Good luck Joey on your trip upwards through the Detroit Tigers' minor league system!

Hemmer, Belisario, Jimenez, CT Tigers' Nasty Boys in 2014

If you can remember back to the Cincinnati Reds' 1990 World Series championship team, then you will certainly remember the team's celebrated three headed monster bullpen of Norm Charlton, Rob Dibble and Randy Myers (who were nicknamed "The Nasty Boys.")
Well, here in 2014 the Connecticut Tigers have their own version of "The Nasty Boys" with relievers Joe Jimenez, Gabe Hemmer and Johan Belisario. Have a look at the numbers:
Joe Jimenez (2-1, 2.86, 4 Saves, 33 K 4 BB in 22 IP), (Jimenez has a fastball that flashes 95 MPH)
Johan Belisario (5-0, 0.65, 1 Save, 26 K 6 BB), (2014 NY-Penn League All Star)
Gabe Hemmer (2-0, 0.83, 35 K 3 BB  in 21.2 IP), (Hemmer was absolutely dominant Saturday night against Aberdeen, the Ironbirds simply didn't have a chance against him.

The Tigers have also had superb contributions out of the pen from Will LaMarche and Gage Smith.

Tiger fans take notice, you are looking at a bullpen with possibly three future impact MLB relievers!

The Tigers have 18 home dates remaining and look forward to shattering their all time season attendance of (68,757) which was set in 2013. High marks go to CT Tiger GM CJ Knudsen and his staff and also the fans of the greater Norwich area.

CT Tiger Jacob Kapstein Should Be In The Lineup Every Night

Connecticut Tigers' manager Mike Rabelo needs to find a way of getting Jacob Kapstein into the lineup every night. Kapstein seems to produce every game he starts. If the Tigers are intent at platooning Kapstein at first base with Will Maddox, Kapstein should be the DH  when Maddox starts. Kapstein appears to be a clutch player and he could help the Tigers in their quest of a NY-Penn League Wild Card berth.
