Former 2011 Connecticut Tigers reliever Melvin Mercedes has been dominant in his role as closer with the High Class A Lakeland Flying Tigers in 2013. Through 20 games with Lakeland, Mercedes is 2-0, with an 0.73 ERA with 9 saves. Mercedes has been close to untouchable in 2013, allowing only 17 hits in 24.2 IP. He also has 15 K's and just 4 walks. Mercedes spent time in the Detroit Tigers this spring and was ranked as Detroit's #13 prospect heading into the 2013 season. Perhaps Melvin will be the Tigers' closer of the future.
